Gary L. Clayton, CPA

Mr. Clayton has been actively involved in real estate management and income tax consulting and preparation for The Appelt Company since 1988. Mr. Clayton, a native Houstonian, serves as chief financial officer and treasurer to numerous affiliated corporations, limited partnerships and joint ventures which combine to a portfolio of over 700,000 square feet of retail and office space, oil & gas properties and ranching operations. Mr. Clayton contributes a wide array of computer experience, including installation, training, daily operations and troubleshooting. He is responsible for all aspects of financial management including accounting, tax, budgeting, financial analysis, negotiation with and reporting to financial institutions, and risk management.

Prior to joining The Appelt Company, Mr. Clayton worked in public accounting for Arthur Andersen & Co in Houston and a small local Houston CPA firm. During his tenure at Arthur Andersen, his clients included Gerald Hines Development.

Mr. Clayton received his BBA in Accounting from The University of Texas at Austin in 1984. He is a lifetime member of Texas’ Exes Former Students’ Association of the University of Texas. He has served as a President of his neighborhood civic association, a member of the Administrative Board of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, and Chairman of the Family Life Council at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. He has coached numerous children’s sports teams. He has served as Treasurer and Assistant Cub Master for Cub Scout Troop 558 affiliated with Bunker Hill Elementary. He has taught Sunday school for several years to various age groups.
